Van Hyning: Remembering Dick ‘Siete Leguas’ Hall

Some readers might wonder why Dick Hall and Dick Williams were traded to Baltimore in 1961 for Jerry Walker and Chuck Essegian, after Whitey Herzog and Russ Snyder were dealt to the Orioles from Kansas City. New majority owner Charles O. Finley purchased controlling interest in the A’s on December 19, 1960. He bought a bus and pointed it in the direction of New York and burned it to symbolize the end of the special “Kansas City A’s-New York Yankees relationship,” one with multiple trades.
