The photograph is from the first base side of the field. It shows the moment of Aaron's baseball bat meeting a ball tossed by Cardinals' pitcher Vinegar Bend Mizell, who is not visible. Hal Smith is the St. Louis catcher in the photo. The at-bat result was a single to center field for one of the 223 hits Aaron recorded that season.
