Denny Doyle Stands Near a Sliding Chicago Cub at Wrigley Field

Description

A color slide of Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Denny Doyle standing near a sliding Chicago Cubs player. Wrigley Field's ivy outfield wall is visible in the background. The Cubs player is in his white home uniform and has just slid into second base. He is on his hands and knees, with his right side visible. The Phillies' shortstop Larry Bowa is in the background, slowly returning to his position. Both Phillies are wearing their road blue uniforms. Based upon neighboring photographs in the Rucker archive, the Cubs player may be Jose Cardenal (uniform number 1) and was likely taken October 4th, 1972, between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Chicago Cubs, that year's final series for both teams. That was the only game Doyle, Bowa, and Cardenal played in the same game.
