A 1986 Card Collectors 1950 Bowman (Reprint) baseball card of Luke Appling. The back of card number 37 in the set reads, "Luke Appling Shortstop - Chicago White Sox Born : High Point, N. C., April 2, 1909 Height : 5-10 Weight : 185 Bats : Right Throws : Right Old "Aches and Pains" is starting his 21st season with the White Sox. In 1930, fresh from Oglethorpe University, Luke joined the Atlanta team. But, at the end of that campaign, he came to the Sox, and has been with them ever since, except for 1 year in the service (1944). Hit .301 last year. Set up major league record for most games played at short. No. 37 in the 1950 Series of Baseball Picture Cards Reprint © 1950 Bowman Gum, Inc., Phila., Pa., U.S.A." A circular Bowman logo is in the upper right corner. Text on the outside of the circle reads," Picture Card Collectors Club", and inside reads, "5 Star Bowman Series".
