A 1978 1948 Bowman reprint baseball card of Ray Poat. The back of card number 42 in the set reads, "42 - Ray Poat Pitcher - New York Giants Born : Chicago, Ill. Dec. 19. 1917 Bats : Right Throws : Right Height : 6 : 2 Weight : 205 Ray went from University of Illinois into Organized Baseball with Leakville in the Bi-State League in 1939. He won 59, lost 26 during 4 seasons in the minors. Moved up to Cleveland of the American League in 1942 for two full seasons, and then was put on voluntarily retired list for 1945. He returned to baseball with Baltimore of Internationa League for next two seasons, compiling records of 12-7 and 11-7 After his 11-7 record last season the Giants bought him and he finished winning 4 and losing 3 for them.
