The back of card number 24 in the set reads, "Ewell Blackwell Pitcher - Cincinnati Reds Born: Fresno, Calif., Oct. 23, 1922 Height: 6-6 Weight: 185 Bats: Right Throws: Right Made a great comeback last season after ill health had cut down effectiveness in 1948 and 1949. Earned run average of 2.97 was the third most effective in the League. Win and lose record was 17-15 with a weak-hitting team. Famous for buggy-whip sidearm delivery. Has a world of stuff to keep batters in state of confusion. Pitched no-hitter against Boston in 1947. Record that season, 22-8. No. 24 in the 1951 series Baseball Picture Cards Reprint 1986 C.C.C."
