Ted Williams Counter Display Sign for Moxie

Description

A color slide showing a cardboard counter display sign for the regional soft drink Moxie. A full-length image of Ted Williams is on the left side of the advertisement. Williams is in the follow-through of his swing. His body twists to his right with the baseball bat behind his left shoulder. His right leg is extending in front of his left, and he is looking outward as if tracking the flight of the baseball. He is wearing a Boston Red Sox cap and a home uniform. A bottle of Moxie is on the right side of the advertisement. In the middle of the sign is the phrase, "it's a HIT says" (in white letters) above "TED WILLIAMS" (in red letters). Based on the timing of the product, the advertisement dates to the 1950s. Original counter displays were designed with an easel back and stood approximately 9 inches x 13 inches with a small base. The image of Williams was die-cut to provide a 3-D effect. The words "Ted Williams Moxie Counter Display Adv." are written on the physical slide. See willite01_264, and willite01_350.
