Ted Williams at Hall of Fame Announcement

Description

A slide of a black-and-white photograph of Ted Williams at the announcement of his election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. To his left is Hyman "Hy" Hurwitz, a writer for the Boston Globe and secretary-treasurer of the Baseball Writers Association of America. Both men are shown from the waist up, wearing business suits, sitting behind a table with a bank of four microphones. They are both holding a page of tractor-feed computer paper: Williams with his right hand at the left edge of the paper and Hurwitz with his left hand holding the other side and his right hand at the bottom. Williams is smiling and looking slightly to his left rather than directly at the camera. Hurwitz is smiling and looking to his right at Williams. The image is credited as an AP Wirephoto, which included the following caption: "Ted Hits the Big One: Former Red Sox slugger Ted Williams grins as he holds [a] tabulation that named him to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Hy Hurwitz, secretary-treasurer of the Baseball Writers Association of America, right, makes [the] announcement at [a] Fenway Park press conference." Information written on the physical slide reads, "Announcement Fenway."
