/in /by adminDave Wilkie grew up a third-generation San Francisco Giants fan in Western Canada idolizing Willie McCovey, Vida Blue, and Jack Clark. His obsession with Negro League baseball can be traced to a 1983 mail-order purchase of the book The All-Time All-Stars of Black Baseball, by SABR member James A. Riley. He has written SABR biographies on Negro League greats Sam Bankhead, Johnny Davis, Chester Williams, Cool Papa Bell, Frank Duncan, Judy Gans, Rocky Ellis, and Crush Holloway. He also contributed a chapter for the 2023 SABR publication Nichibei Yakyu: US Tours of Japan and two chapters for Black Baseball in Living Color: The Artwork of Graig Kreindler. Dave lives in Richmond, Virginia, with his son, Monte, and is working on his first book.
