Shane Barclay

Shane Barclay’s first baseball writing project was in first grade, when his habit of making baseball a central theme in almost every school assignment began. Creative writing projects focused on imaginary Little League baseball heroes, entries on “what I want to be when I grow up” were always about being a baseball player, and biographical book reports were on the likes of Brooks Robinson and Orlando Cepeda. The tradition continued through high school – Shane wrote his college application essay on how Michael Lewis’s Moneyball inspired his career path – and college at Cal Berkeley, where he wrote a research paper on the MLB Players Association. After eight years working in International Baseball Operations at the MLB’s Commissioner’s Office in the Dominican Republic and New York, Shane is the now the owner of JapanBall, which disseminates information about Japanese baseball and offers guided baseball tours around the globe.
