2024 Dubuque Baseball Classic highlights
The inaugural Dubuque Baseball Classic, supported in part by a $2,500 SABR Local Grant and organized by SABR’s Field of Dreams (Iowa) Chapter, was held on April 13-14, 2024. More than 60 people attended the two-day baseball symposium, which complemented the Dubuque Museum of Art’s 2024 Picturing America’s Pastime exhibition, presented by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and curated by SABR member John T. Pregler.
Featured speakers included Cal Eldred, former MLB pitcher and coach; Larry Young, MLB Supervisor of Umpires; historians and authors Phil S. Dixon, John T. Pregler, and John Liepa.
In addition to the art museum exhibition and presentations in Dubuque, attendees had the opportunity to tour the “If You Build It” exhibit at the Field of Dreams Movie Site in nearby Dyersville, on the making of the film Field of Dreams, and Dwier Brown’s “The Baseball Hall of Dreams,” dedicated to telling the stories of passionate, devoted people who have made baseball meaningful.
“We wish to grow our conference in the future in partnership with the Field of Dreams Movie Site, while promoting SABR research and driving SABR membership,” Pregler said.
