Bruce Bochy to be honored with 2025 SABR Roland Hemond Award
FEBRUARY 12, 2025 — Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy will be honored at SABR 53 this summer with the Roland Hemond Award, which recognizes a baseball executive who has demonstrated a lifetime commitment to professional baseball scouts and scouting, and player development history.
Bochy will be one of our featured speakers at the 2025 SABR convention, scheduled for June 25-29 at the Westin DFW Airport hotel in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas. Visit SABR.org/convention to register now or learn more.
Bochy is in his third season as manager of the Texas Rangers, a team he came out of retirement to lead to a World Series championship in 2023. Since he began his illustrious managerial career in 1995 following nine seasons as a major-league catcher, Bochy has won four World Series titles and five league pennants with the San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, and Rangers. He is the only major-league manager to win 900 games with multiple franchises. In 2010, he led the Giants to their first title since moving to the West Coast and followed it up with two more championships in 2012 and 2014.
“With four World Series titles and more than 2,100 wins, Bruce Bochy is one of our sport’s greatest all-time managers,” SABR Director Dan Evans said. “He is among baseball’s best ambassadors, constantly championing and supporting scouts and player development staff. That’s the essence of Roland Hemond and why we are thrilled that Bruce is the 2025 Roland Hemond Award recipient.”
Hemond, a longtime SABR member and award-winning baseball executive, was the first recipient of the award in 2001 from the SABR Scouts Committee, who subsequently named the honor after him.
