Help us add landmarks to the SABR Baseball Map!
JUNE 7, 2023 — Put it on the map! The Landmarks Committee is excited to announce its first SABR Baseball Map Addition Election and we need your help to find worthy candidates.
Sites generally eligible for nomination include:
- Locations of former ballparks or other sites where there is no physical structure remaining or historical marker;
- Graves of individuals who are not in the Baseball Hall of Fame;
- Former ballplayers’ homes or businesses;
- Baseball-themed restaurants; or
- Any other sites that may have a noteworthy baseball-related significance.
(Please check the SABR Baseball Map to verify that your suggested addition is not already listed.)
- Make your nomination(s) HERE by June 23, 2023 at 11:00 p.m. Central Time.
Campaign For Your Nominee(s)!
Nominations are open to all SABR members. The nominating party is encouraged, but not required, to submit a brief statement in support of their candidate(s) for possible publication in the Hardball Voyager blog to help campaign for each nominee.
Articles submitted by June 19, 2023 may be published in the Hardball Voyager prior to distribution of the ballot, at the discretion of committee leadership. Please send your post and any original photos (must be your own) to Mark Armour and John Racanelli or contact us with any questions.
Voting And Announcement
Soon after the nominations period closes on June 23, 2023, the ballot will be distributed to all Landmarks Committee members for voting. (If you’re not signed up to receive committee emails, click here to join. All SABR members are eligible to join the committee.) Each first-place vote will be worth 5 points; a second-place vote will be worth 3 points; and a third-place vote will be worth 1 point. In case of a tie, we will err on the side of inclusion.
Those candidates with the three highest point totals will be added to the SABR Baseball Map, with the announcement to be made at the Landmarks Committee meeting at SABR 51 on Saturday, July 8 in Chicago. The remainder of the top ten will remain on the ballot for 2024. All vote totals will be published thereafter in the Hardball Voyager.
If you have any questions, please email Landmarks Committee Co-Chair John Racanelli.
