Petti, Zimmerman win 2013 SABR Analytics Conference Research Award – Contemporary Analysis

Bill Petti and Jeff Zimmerman were announced as the winners of a 2013 SABR Analytics Conference Research Award on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the SABR Analytics Conference in Phoenix, Arizona.

Petti and Zimmerman were voted as the winners of the Contemporary Baseball Analysis award for their article “Pitcher Aging Curves: An Introduction,” published at FanGraphs.com on April 30, 2012.

Petti is a staff writer for FanGraphs.com and a regular consultant for MLB Network’s “Clubhouse Confidential.”

Zimmerman was a pitcher in the Texas Rangers organization from 1998 to 2001 and began writing for FanGraphs.com in 2010. Zimmerman is considered an expert on player health and injury research.

The SABR Analytics Conference Research Awards recognize baseball researchers who have completed the best work of original analysis or commentary during the preceding calendar year.

Voting for the winners was conducted online at SABR.org, BaseballProspectus.com, FanGraphs.com and HardballTimes.com, with results weighted equally at 25 percent. Links to read the finalists can be found at SABR.org/analytics.
