SABR Member Benefit Spotlight: Promoting Your Baseball Research
OCTOBER 23, 2024 — As a SABR member, you have vast resources and benefits at your disposal. With so much information at your fingertips, we realize it can be overwhelming to absorb it all! To highlight key benefits, read on for a SABR Member Benefit Spotlight, an email series that identifies and explains some of the most valuable features of your membership. We hope this allows you to take full advantage of all SABR has to offer.
Today’s issue provides examples of how to promote your own research and work within SABR.
PROMOTING YOUR BASEBALL RESEARCH WITH SABR
If you’re an author or researcher looking to share your work with other SABR members and the greater baseball community, we have several options for you to do so. Take a look at our Guide to Promoting Your Baseball Book Through SABR or read on for some suggestions to get your work out there!
- SABR Bookshelf — If you’ve recently written a baseball book, you can submit it to be added to the SABR Bookshelf. If you’d like to get your book listed, send an e-book file in PDF, EPUB/Kindle, or MOBI format to Jacob Pomrenke. The list will be periodically updated throughout the year.
- Research Committees and Local Chapters — It’s common for committees and chapters to feature guest speakers at in-person and virtual meetings. If your topic is relevant to that group, consider reaching out to the leaders to see if they’d be interested in having you present to their members. Many research committees and local chapters publish newsletters and are interested in new submissions. Reach out to your group’s leaders to submit an article to their chapter or committee newsletter.
- This Week In SABR — Our weekly newsletter, This Week in SABR, includes an “Around The Web” section, featuring recent articles published by and about SABR members. If you’ve published an article to another outlet other than SABR, you’re welcome to submit that link to be included in this section in This Week in SABR. Send an email with the link to your article to Jacob Pomrenke to have it featured in this section.
- Conference and Convention Presentations — Research presentations are a huge part of SABR’s national events. We accept research presentation submissions a few months in advance of the event to give us time to review. We will announce open submission opportunities by email, through the This Week in SABR newsletter, and on our website at sabr.org. You can also keep an eye out for event information through our Events Calendar on the website. We are currently accepting abstract submissions for the 2025 SABR Analytics Conference until November 20.
- Baseball Research Journal — The Baseball Research Journal is SABR’s flagship publication, consisting of journal articles written by SABR members and published twice a year. You can learn more about submitting articles for the BRJ here, or send your questions to PubDir@sabr.org.
