SABR Member Benefit Spotlight: Updating Your Profile and Membership Directory

OCTOBER 31, 2023 — As a SABR member, you have vast resources and benefits at your disposal. With so much information at your fingertips, we realize it can be overwhelming to absorb it all! To highlight key benefits, read on for this month’s SABR Member Benefit Spotlight, an email series that identifies and explains some of the most valuable features of your membership. We hope this allows you to take full advantage of all SABR has to offer.

Today’s issue shows you how to update your membership profile to help make the best use of the SABR membership directory.

UPDATING YOUR SABR PROFILE

If there have been any changes to your contact information this year, it’s easy to make those updates on your SABR profile. Keeping your profile information up to date ensures that other SABR members are able to contact you through directory searches. You can make changes by logging into your profile, and clicking on the Edit icon on the right side of the screen.

Be sure to scroll down and click Save Changes in order for any updates you might have made to be saved to your profile.

Research Interests and Expertise

The easiest way for other SABR members to find you in a directory search is to include your own interests in the Research Interests and Expertise field on your profile. Even if you’re not an expert in the topic you’re interested in, we recommend filling this out. If any of your interests in this field match keyword searches conducted by other members, your profile will appear as a search result.

For example, if a member searches for “Atlanta Braves” in the directory, and you’ve included that on your profile in the Research Interests and Expertise field, your profile will appear to them in search results, and they’ll be able to get in contact with you for further discussions about your shared interests. You can find the Research Interests and Expertise field under Personal Information on your profile.

ACCESSING THE SABR DIRECTORY

As a SABR member, you get full access to the membership directory, which allows you to connect with over 7,500 members worldwide. One of the biggest benefits of your membership is the connections you form within our baseball community, and the directory is just one of the many ways to do so.

  • How do I search for another SABR member?
    • You can search for members by typing in their name in the top search bar of the directory that says “Search Directory…”. Any active member listed by that name will show up in the search results.
  • How do I do a keyword search?
    • You can search for topics, terms, or teams in the top search bar of the directory that says “Search Directory…”. Any active member who has included that search term in their profile will show up in the search results. We recommend filling out the Research Interests and Expertise field on your own profile so that you can appear in keyword search results to other SABR members.
  • What if I don’t want to share my personal information in the directory?
    • You can make information on your profile private by clicking on the orange icon to the left of the field you would like to hide. A dropdown menu will appear. Click on Private (Not Visible In Profile), and the icon will change to a lock. This means that field is no longer visible on your profile to other members.
