Neyer is a longtime baseball writer and editor for ESPN.com, SB Nation, and FoxSports.com. He began his career as a research assistant for groundbreaking baseball author Bill James and later worked for STATS, Inc. He has also written or co-written seven baseball books, including The Neyer/James Guide to Pitchers (with Bill James), winner of the Sporting News/SABR Baseball Research Award, and most recently Power Ball: Anatomy of a Modern Baseball Game, winner of this year’s CASEY Award.

Our guest this week is F.X. Flinn, SABR’s longest-serving member of the Board of Directors, who spearheaded the development of the new Sporting News Baseball Player Contract Cards Collection, an important primary source for information about the lives and careers of nearly 180,000 professional baseball players, umpires, and executives that was unveiled earlier this month at LA84.org. Flinn was elected as SABR Treasurer in 2001 and has served on the SABR Board for the past 18 years. He is also the founder of Expert Systems Development Corp., an IT consulting firm specializing in data warehousing, knowledge management and process development. He lives in Quechee, Vermont.
