Mel Marmer
/in /by Jason BestMel Marmer was an alumnus of the University of The Arts, Philadelphia, with a degree in Graphic Design. He built a career in advertising, design and the arts. In his leisure time, Mel wrote poetry and short stories. He enjoyed literature, history, and baseball, and got (mostly) down with the Phillies. He co-edited SABR’s book of biographies about the 1964 Phillies, The Year of the Blue Snow (2013).
After bravely facing health challenges for several years, Mel died on June 30, 2022. He was 73. He had lived in Philadelphia and Piegaro, Italy with his longtime partner, Vickie Schafer Aspinwall. In addition to her, Mel was survived by two daughters (Amy and Alissa), five grandsons (Christopher, Johnny, Marco, Anthony, and Logan), and his dog (Ollie).
