Maddux Brothers-Las Vegas Chapter meeting recap – 9/16/2017
On Saturday, September 16, 2017, eight members of the SABR Maddux Brothers-Las Vegas Chapter met at the office of Kaempfer Crowell in downtown Summerlin, Nevada. We welcomed our guest speaker, Dr. James Vlasich, author of A Legend for the Legendary: The Origin of the Baseball Hall of Fame, who gave a presentation titled “The Doubleday Myth.” All in attendance agreed it was a great presentation.
Rick Swift gave a report on this summer’s SABR 47 convention in New York City, and encourage members to think about attending SABR 48 next year in Pittsburgh. Rick is also planning to attend the SABR Arizona Fall League Experience in November and encouraged members to attend.
Rick gave two short reports on the two best books he has read this year, The Selling of the Babe by Glenn Stout, and Casey Stengel: Baseball’s Greatest Character by Marty Appel.
New business: Rick passed out business cards he had made up to advertise the local chapter. Some of the members discussed having more meetings next year, including possible monthly meetings at a local sports bar/restaurant.
