John F. Green
/in /by adminJohn F. Green (1930-2013) was a native of San Diego, a retired accountant and lifelong baseball fan. His father took him to his first game in 1936, to see Ted Williams play for the Pacific Coast League Padres. He lived in Carlsbad with his beloved wife Dorothy, whom he married in 1954. They enjoyed jazz, wine, microbrews, and R.V. travel; and were Padres’ season ticket holders for many years. John’s personal baseball career, while promising at San Diego High School, took a nosedive while playing ball in the service. A pair of beanings caused his batting average to fall below the Equator, the Navy’s equivalent to the Mendoza line. He played a season of freshman ball at San Diego State, batted .178, and called it a career. View his obituary here.
