Adrián Beltré, Joe Mauer, Todd Helton elected to Baseball Hall of Fame in 2024

JANUARY 23, 2024 — Adrián Beltré, Joe Mauer, and Todd Helton were elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in the Class of 2024.

Beltré received 95.1% of the votes cast by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America; Helton received 79.7% and Mauer received 76.1%. They will join Jim Leyland, elected by the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee, to be honored during Induction Weekend on July 19-22 in Cooperstown, New York. Longtime SABR member Joe Castiglione, voice of the Boston Red Sox, will also be honored with the Ford C. Frick Award.

Beltré earned five Rawlings Gold Glove Awards and two Rawlings Platinum Glove Awards during his decorated 21-year career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox, and Texas Rangers. He will be the fifth player born in the Dominican Republic to be enshrined in Cooperstown. Click here to read his SABR biography by Zac Petrillo.

Mauer was a homegrown superstar in Minnesota, the first player taken by the Twins in the 2001 amateur draft. He arrived in the majors three years later and quickly became the top catcher in baseball. He earned the AL’s Most Valuable Player Award in 2009 and became the first catcher in AL/NL history to win three batting titles. Injuries forced him to vacate his original position until his final game in 2018.

Helton was a five-time All-Star and three-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner who spent all 17 seasons of his major-league career with the Colorado Rockies. His No. 17 jersey was the first number retired in franchise history. He contended for the NL Triple Crown in 2000, recording a league-leading .372 batting average and 147 RBIs with 42 home runs. He helped lead the Rockies to the team’s first World Series in 2007. Click here to read his SABR biography by Alan Cohen.
