Marlene Vogelsang

Marlene Vogelsang honored as 2026 SABR Founders’ Day Award recipient

Marlene Vogelsang of San Leandro, California, was recognized this week as the recipient of the 2026 SABR Founders’ Day Award, which recognizes a member who has contributed significant or enduring service as a leader of a regional chapter or research committee.

Vogelsang, a SABR member since 2004, took over as president of the Bay Area-based Lefty O’Doul Chapter in 2007, and has served in a leadership role for the past two decades.

“Baseball gives us many gifts and one of those gifts to me has certainly been SABR,” Vogelsang said. “It’s been a pleasure to give back to the organization and to the people who have given so much to me. SABR works because of all of you and you give to it, and I’m happy to be a part of that work. … SABR is truly for everyone. I’m not a historian or a researcher or an author or an analyst. I’m a baseball fan, and I’ve been so happy to find a home with all of you here in SABR.”

SABR's All-Time Eras Teams: Integration Era (1947-1972)

SABR All-Time Eras Team announced for Integration Era (1947–1972)

Throughout the 2026 season, SABR members will have a chance to vote on SABR’s All-Time Eras Teams as we celebrate the 150 years of baseball and American history since the founding of the National League in 1876. On Tuesday, August 18, SABR revealed the Integration Era team in a special Zoom webinar, covering players and teams from 1947 to 1972. More than 1,000 SABR members cast a vote on these ballots. The top vote recipients at each position were selected for the first team. Click on a link below to view the players, managers, and executives selected, along with their SABR biographies and statistics from Baseball-Reference.com:

Before the team was unveiled, acclaimed author Howard Bryant delivered a presentation on baseball during the Integration Era. Click here to watch a video recording of Bryant’s presentation and the team reveal.
