Ross Adell First-Time Attendee Coffee Talk
Ross Adell, a SABR member for almost 25 years before he died of cancer in 2006 at the age of 50, loved a good party. He enjoyed making new friends and introducing them to kindred baseball spirits. That’s what the SABR convention is all about. For those of you attending your first convention, we know it can be a bit daunting. But we want you to feel welcome and Ross would, too. Grab a cup of coffee while meeting fellow SABR members and convention attendees. From 7:30 a.m.-8:00 a.m., we will also discuss tips on navigating convention, especially useful for first-time attendees. Coffee talks are open to all SABR 53 attendees.

Frisco RoughRiders vs. Tulsa Drillers, 7:05 p.m.

Join us on Thursday, June 26 for a minor league game between the Frisco RoughRiders and Tulsa Drillers (Los Angeles Dodgers’ Double-A affiliate) at Riders Field in Frisco, Texas. Your SABR game ticket also includes roundtrip bus transportation from the Westin DFW Airport hotel. Cost: $45 (includes bus). Please note: Chits for your RoughRiders ballgame ticket must be redeemed at the registration desk before 12:00 p.m. Thursday.

  • Please note: The buses will begin loading at 5:45 p.m. just outside the Trinity Ballroom gallery exit doors on the south side of the Westin hotel. Globe Life Field ballpark tour
Join us on the afternoon of Friday, June 27 for a behind-the-scenes ballpark tour of Globe Life Field during SABR 53. Visitors will visit some of Globe Life Field’s premium lounges and spaces while also learning about the rich history of the Texas Rangers and unique architecture of Globe Life Field. The buses for the ballpark tour will depart from the hotel at 3:00 p.m. Friday and return after the end of the ballgame. Anyone entering Globe Life Field for the afternoon tour will be allowed to stay inside the ballpark for the duration of the game. Cost: $95 (includes 1 Rangers game ticket + roundtrip bus transportation). Please note: Chits for your Rangers ballgame ticket must be redeemed at the registration desk before 11:00 a.m. Friday. You MUST buy a Rangers game ticket from SABR in order to attend the ballpark tour.

Attendees at SABR 53 will have a special opportunity to visit Globe Life Field for the Texas Rangers game against the Seattle Mariners on the evening of Friday, June 27. SABR has reserved a block of tickets in the Outfield Mezzanine level in right field (sections 128-133). Buses for the game will depart from the hotel at 6:00 p.m. Friday and return after the end of the ballgame. All SABR buses will return to the hotel after the end of the ballgame. Please note: Chits for your ballgame ticket must be redeemed at the SABR registration desk by 11:00 a.m. Friday.

Closing Ceremonies with Trivia Contest Finals
Join us for SABR’s Closing Ceremonies. Awards to be presented at the Closing Ceremonies are the Bob Davids Award (at approximately 7:05 p.m.), annual chapter awards (7:45 p.m.), and Doug Pappas Award (8:25 p.m.) in between rounds of the Trivia Contest. Then settle in to watch SABR’s trivia experts as they try to answer questions that are presented in ascending difficulty. This year’s Trivia Contest includes new themes, new rules, and the popular “Immaculate Feud” competition based on the Immaculate Grid game produced by Baseball-Reference.com. Who will win the SABR 53 Trivia Contest? Come watch to find out.


Sunday, June 29

Reflections on Baseball
Mark Stamm will lead an ecumenical worship service to give thanks for the game we love which has shaped us in so many significant ways. Stamm is a longtime SABR member and an ordained elder in The United Methodist Church who recently retired as Professor of Christian Worship at Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Open to all convention attendees.
