Jake Bell
While attending Arizona State University, Jake Bell performed play-by-play for the Sun Devils, including the 1998 College World Series runners-up, and for the Phoenix Firebirds, San Francisco’s AAA affiliate. He also interned for the Milwaukee Brewers media relations department during his junior year, the highlight of which was Bob Uecker almost pulling down Jake’s pants in front of Bud Selig during a live read of a car dealership ad. After graduation, he landed a sports anchor job at KYMA-NewsChannel 7 in Yuma, Arizona, where he co-hosted “Frog Talk,” a weekly show about the Yuma Bullfrogs of the independent Western Baseball League. Several TV and radio stations followed, as well as Jake breaking down and getting a series of “real jobs” most of them involving writing and editing, including authoring the The Amazing Adventures of Nate Banks series published by Scholastic Books. No matter how much he professes to love baseball today, Jake’s father would want you to know that they both missed seeing Len Barker pitch a perfect game because Jake demanded they watch the Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan’s Island that night instead.
