Anyone who is interested in helping out as an on-site volunteer at the registration area during SABR 54 in Cleveland is encouraged to contact SABR’s Jessica Smyth to sign up. Convention volunteers help to pass out registration badges and goody bags, ballgame tickets, and convention merch. Volunteers will receive a free convention T-shirt if they sign up for a shift.
Seeking research presentation judges at SABR 54
Judges of oral and poster presentations are sought for SABR 54 in Cleveland. Winners of the Doug Pappas Award for oral presentations and the Best Poster Award will be determined based on the on-site judges’ evaluations.
You’ll submit scores for whichever presentations you choose to attend/view, using forms that will be provided. (If you’re presenting a poster, you can still judge oral presentations and vice versa.) After evaluations for all presentations have been completed, a judges’ meeting will review the outcomes and make the final decisions.
To volunteer to be a presentation judge at SABR 54, or if you have any questions, please contact Neal Traven.

Field of Dreams Iowa Chapter dedicates historical marker for Council Bluffs ballpark
On Thursday, June 25, the SABR Field of Dreams Chapter in Iowa hosted a dedication ceremony for the installation of a historical marker where a significant ballpark in Council Bluffs once stood. Built in 1910, Broadway/Legion Park hosted local, amateur, semipro, Negro League, and professional teams. Over its nearly 50-year history, 25 future Baseball Hall of Famers appeared at the park.
The dedication ceremony featured guest speakers including Council Bluffs Mayor Jill Shudak, Omaha Storm Chasers President/GM Martie Cordaro, SABR’s John Shorey, and former Kansas City Monarchs batboy Dean Wood, along with a baseball memorabilia display provided by the Marsh Collection. SABR members, friends, and family also attended a Triple-A baseball game that evening between the Omaha Storm Chasers and the Columbus Clippers.
The Field of Dreams Chapter was a recipient of a SABR Local Grant in 2026 for this project. Click here to learn more about the Local Grants program.
