SABR 54: Hear from Bob Kendrick, MLBPA 60th Anniversary Panel
SABR’s 54th annual convention is scheduled for July 29–August 2, 2026, in Cleveland, Ohio. All baseball fans are welcome to attend. Sign up today to join us!
At the SABR 54 Welcome Reception on Wednesday, July 29, we’re excited to welcome Bob Kendrick of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in a “fireside chat” with Cleveland baseball historian Stephanie Liscio.
We’re also excited to announce the 60th Anniversary of MLB Players Association Panel, featuring Ezra Frankel, the MLBPA’s Director of Baseball Economics; award-winning authors and baseball historians Mark Armour and Dan Levitt; University of Wisconsin-La Crosse economics professor Mike Haupert; and moderator Katie Krall, SABR Director and Northwestern University professor.
They will join a Major League-sized lineup of featured speakers that also includes Cleveland Guardians President of Baseball Operations Chris Antonetti; former Cleveland greats Sandy Alomar Jr., Carlos Baerga, Mike Hargrove, Kenny Lofton, and Charles Nagy; BBWAA Career Excellence Award recipient Paul Hoynes; Major League writer and director David S. Ward; Guardians broadcaster and Ford C. Frick Award recipient Tom Hamilton; Guardians executives Sky Andrecheck, Keith Woolner, and Kyle Burris, and more.
Please note: All speakers are subject to change depending on availability.
Whether you’re attending your first SABR convention or returning as a longtime regular, this is a great year to be part of the experience. Newcomers will find plenty of opportunities to connect and build baseball friendships, while veteran attendees can look forward to a richly layered event. It promises to be an unforgettable week of baseball fellowship in “The Land,” and we hope you’ll join us!
Visit SABR.org/convention to learn more or to view the full convention schedule.
Schedule change for room assignments

- All sessions originally assigned to Superior D will now take place in Superior C. This includes any ODD-numbered research presentations, featured panels, and many research committee meetings.
- All sessions originally assigned to Superior C will now take place in Superior D. This includes any EVEN-numbered research presentations and other committee meetings.
Please check the online schedule at SABR.org for updated room assignments. The printed convention program in your goody bags may include some older room assignments. A QR code to access the online schedule can be found on signage throughout the Hilton hotel and also on everyone’s registration badges. Any sessions scheduled for Superior A or Superior B are unaffected.
Call for on-site volunteers at SABR 54
Anyone who is interested in helping out as an on-site volunteer at the registration area during SABR 54 in Cleveland is encouraged to contact SABR’s Jessica Smyth to sign up. Convention volunteers help to pass out registration badges and goody bags, ballgame tickets, and convention merch. Volunteers will receive a free convention T-shirt if they sign up for a shift.
Seeking research presentation judges and timekeepers at SABR 54
At SABR 54 in Cleveland, we are seeking on-site judges of oral and poster presentations and also room timekeepers to keep the schedule on track.
Winners of the Doug Pappas Award for oral presentations and the Best Poster Award will be determined based on the judges’ evaluations. Judges will submit scores for whichever presentations you choose to attend/view, using forms that will be provided. (If you’re presenting a poster, you can still judge oral presentations and vice versa.) After evaluations for all presentations have been completed, a judges’ meeting will review the outcomes and make the final decisions.
Room timekeepers sit near the podium during a 2-hour block of presentations, and signal to each presenter how much time is left in their session. To volunteer to be a presentation judge or room timekeeper at SABR 54, please contact Neal Traven.

Tyler Tolbert ties AL/NL record with 12 hits in 12 consecutive plate appearances
This week, Tyler Tolbert of the Kansas City Royals tied a little-known record with 12 hits in 12 consecutive plate appearances. In AL/NL history, only Johnny Kling of the 1902 Chicago Cubs and Walt Dropo of the 1952 Detroit Tigers have accomplished this feat. Read more about Kling and Dropo’s careers in the SABR Biography Project.
Mike Higgins of the Boston Red Sox in 1938 and José Miranda of the Minnesota Twins in 2024 also had 12 straight hits in 12 official at-bats, but they were not in consecutive plate appearances. Negro Leagues star Rap Dixon of the Baltimore Black Sox holds the all-time major league record with 14 hits in 14 at-bats during American Negro League games in July 1928. Dixon also reached base in 16 consecutive plate appearances, one shy of the all-time record of 17 by Frank “Piggy” Ward in 1893.
