2024 Baseball Hall of Fame inductees: Adrián Beltré, Joe Mauer, Todd Helton, Jim Leyland

On Sunday, July 21, the Baseball Hall of Fame welcomes four new members: Adrián Beltré, Joe Mauer, Todd Helton, and Jim Leyland. SABR celebrates Cooperstown’s Class of 2024 by highlighting Research Collection articles featuring the new inductees.

SABR’s BioProject provides comprehensive biographies of each new inductee. Author Zac Petrillo tells the story of the popular Adrián Beltré, who earned five Rawlings Gold Glove Awards and is the fifth Dominican-born player to enter the Hall of Fame. Joseph Wancho dives into the homegrown superstar Joe Mauer and his legacy with the Minnesota Twins. Alan Cohen looks back at the career of the star first baseman Todd Helton, who spent all 17 seasons with the Colorado Rockies. David Bilmes offers the colorful story of manager Jim Leyland, who won a pennant in both leagues and a World Series championship.

SABR’s Games Project also includes stories that shine a light on the baseball figures inducted in the Class of 2024. Beltré’s 3,000th career hit and record-tying third cycle, Mauer’s major-league debut and his surprise final appearance as a catcher, Helton hitting for the cycle and later saying goodbye to Rockies fans, Leyland’s first win as a manager and a World Series Game 7 for the ages are all featured in the Games Project.

In addition, longtime SABR member and Boston Red Sox broadcaster Joe Castiglione will be honored in Cooperstown with the Ford C. Frick Award, the fourth SABR member to receive the award.
