John Thorn

John Thorn's many baseball books include Baseball in the Garden of Eden, Total Baseball, The Hidden Game of Baseball, and Treasures of the Baseball Hall of Fame. In 2004 he revealed the existence of a Pittsfield (MA) statute prohibiting the play of baseball in 1791. In 2005 he addressed an audience at the Smithsonian Institution on the subject of early baseball. He is a columnist for four publications and has written essays and op-eds for the Boston Globe, the New York Times, American Heritage, and The Sporting News. Thorn lives in Saugerties, New York.
