Bruce Bochy honored with 2025 Roland Hemond Award
Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy was honored at SABR 53 on Thursday, June 26 with the Roland Hemond Award, which recognizes a baseball executive who has demonstrated a lifetime commitment to professional baseball scouts and scouting, and player development history.
Bochy is in his third season as manager of the Texas Rangers, a team he came out of retirement to lead to a World Series championship in 2023. Since he began his illustrious managerial career in 1995 following nine seasons as a major-league catcher, Bochy has won four World Series titles and five league pennants with the San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, and Rangers. He is the only major-league manager to win 900 games with multiple franchises. In 2010, he led the Giants to their first title since moving to the West Coast and followed it up with two more championships in 2012 and 2014.

Tom Zocco honored for attending 50 consecutive SABR Conventions
Tom Zocco of Rocky Hill, Connecticut, was honored at the SABR 53 Welcome Reception on Wednesday, June 25 in Irving, Texas, for reaching a unique milestone: attending his 50th consecutive SABR Convention.
Zocco joined SABR on September 24, 1971, just one month after the organization’s founding at the National Baseball Hall of Fame Library in Cooperstown, New York. He was the 47th member in SABR’s rolls. He attended his first annual convention in 1974 at Philadelphia — and has never missed one since.
“I was 26 years old and one of the youngest people in the room,” Zocco said. “Now I’m one of the old guys. Coming back and seeing all my friends is still a highlight every year.”

Join us this summer for an unforgettable tribute to a San Francisco legend! SABR’s Lefty O’Doul Bay Area Chapter invites all baseball fans to a hometown hero celebration honoring Francis Joseph “Lefty” O’Doul, whose magnificent baseball grave monument has been fully restored at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park in California.
- When: Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 9:30 a.m.
- Where: Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, 1370 El Camino Real, Colma, CA 94014
- Cost: Free and open to the public

The celebration will begin with the dramatic unveiling of Lefty’s newly restored monument — an impressive 6-foot, 5-inch tall tribute that truly captures the essence of this baseball icon. Afterward, the festivities move to nearby Molloy’s Tavern, where we’ll raise a glass to celebrate Lefty’s 128th birthday surrounded by fellowship, good cheer, and our shared passion for baseball—America’s beloved national pastime.
The renovation was possible thanks to funding from the SABR Local Grants Program and the San Francisco Giants.
