SABR 53: Hotel block, merch, ticket deadlines are next week

We hope you’ll join us at SABR’s 53rd annual convention, which be held on June 25-29, 2025, at the Westin DFW Airport Hotel in Irving, Texas. All baseball fans are welcome to attend. A few important deadlines are approaching soon, so make sure to register today:

  • Pre-order SABR 53 merch and game tickets: Avoid the rush at registration, and pre-order your SABR 53 convention logo polo shirt, T-shirt, baseball cap, or lapel pin online! The deadline to pre-order is May 30, 2025. Items will be available to be picked up when you arrive at the SABR convention. We cannot ship any pre-ordered items after the convention. New purchases will not be available on-site; the merch table is for pre-ordered items only.
  • Ballgame/tour tickets: Ticket orders for the following optional events also must be placed by May 30, 2025: Frisco RoughRiders game on Thursday, June 26; Globe Life Field ballpark tour on Friday, June 27; Texas Rangers game on Friday, June 27.
  • Hotel block: The special SABR group rate at the Westin DFW Airport of $169/night plus tax (single/double occupancy) is only available to registered convention attendees. Please note: The cut-off date to book your room at the SABR group rate is May 30, 2025. The hotel offers a free 24/7 hotel shuttle to and from Dallas Fort-Worth International Airport. Note: After you register for the SABR 53 convention, you will receive an e-mail confirmation with details on how to book your hotel room at the SABR group rate. There are a limited number of rooms in our group block, so be sure to register for SABR 53 early!

Full registration or single-day registration for SABR 53 can be purchased online in advance or on-site during convention registration hours beginning on Wednesday, June 25 at the Westin hotel. Click here for complete details on SABR 53 registration rates.

SABR 53 will feature a Texas-sized speaker lineup we know you’ll love — including Hall of Famers Ferguson Jenkins and Iván Rodríguez, and Rangers World Series-winning manager Bruce Bochy and President of Baseball Operations Chris Young — alongside an invigorated social experience emphasizing SABR’s ability to unite all of us in baseball fellowship.

John "Bud" Fowler, SABR's 2020 Overlooked 19th Century Legend who was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2022 (NATIONAL BASEBALL HALL OF FAME LIBRARY)

Vote now for 2025 SABR Overlooked 19th Century Legend of the Year

Each year, SABR’s Nineteenth Century Research Committee selects its Overlooked 19th Century Base Ball Legend — a 19th century player, manager, executive or other baseball personality not yet inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

All SABR members are eligible to cast a vote for the winner. The winner will be announced this summer during the Nineteenth Century Committee’s business meeting at SABR 53 in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas.

  • 2025 finalists: Earlier this year, committee members selected the 16 finalists for the 2025 Overlooked 19th Century Baseball Legend. Click here to view the finalists’ bios, compiled by project co-chairs Adam Darowski and Joe Williams. Voting in the final election will run until June 2, and will be open to all SABR members.
  • Vote now! Click here to access the 2025 ballot. All SABR members are eligible to vote in the election for this year’s Overlooked 19th Century Legend. You *MUST* select five candidates — ranking them from first choice to fifth choice — from among the candidates presented. You are only allowed to vote once. ALL BALLOTS MUST BE CAST PRIOR TO 11:59 p.m. PDT on Monday, June 2, 2025.

Click here for a list of past winners or to learn more about the project.

Submit candidate statements for vacant Board seat by May 28

Dan Evans’s election as President has created a vacancy for a Director’s seat, and a candidate will be appointed by the Board of Directors.

Any SABR member who is interested in filling the rest of that seat’s term — which begins at the conclusion of the Annual Business Meeting at SABR 53 in June and runs until 2026 — should fill out the candidate statement form and send an email to Mark Armour by May 28, 2025.

Students, apply for a Fall 2025 internship with SABR

The Society for American Baseball Research is seeking student interns to work during the Fall 2025 semester from September 1-December 1. The remote internship is an educational opportunity that may count toward college credit, covering 15-20 hours per week with a flexible schedule. The internship will be for a fixed period of time and is designed to provide the intern with skills and training that may be applicable to working in a nonprofit research environment or in other research-based organizations.

Please send a resume and cover letter in PDF form to jpomrenke@sabr.org. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until all positions are filled.
