1 month left to register for Jerry Malloy Negro League Conference

Early registration is now open for SABR’s annual Jerry Malloy Negro League Conference, which will be held on June 6-9, 2024, at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York. All baseball fans are welcome to attend.

Full and single-day registration is available for a discounted rate before May 24, along with a new virtual registration option. All panels and presentations held at the Hall of Fame’s Grandstand Theater on Friday and Saturday will be available on the Zoom livestream.

In-person attendees will also have an opportunity to view the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum’s new exhibit, The Souls of the Game: Voices of Black Baseball.

The 15th annual SABR Frederick Ivor-Campbell 19th Century Base Ball Conference was held on April 19-20, 2024, at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

The 2024 conference was highlighted by a keynote address from author Michael Haupert, along with a panel discussion on the Knickerbocker club with Bruce Allardice, Thomas Gilbert, Bob Tholkes, and moderator Bill Ryczek; a 19th-century artifact session with Robert Mayer, Gary Passamonte, and Jonathan Popovich; a Member Spotlight interview of Thomas Gilbert by Bob Bailey; plus research presentations.

Baseball fans, join us for a special virtual event at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on Thursday, May 9, 2024: a live SABR Oral History interview with former New York Yankees All-Star pitcher and longtime San Francisco Giants pitching coach Dave Righetti.

All fans are invited to attend this interview session on Zoom, which will be conducted by Oral History Committee chair John McMurray. The interview will be recorded and added to SABR’s Oral History Collection archive afterward.

Levin, Lebowitz, Krieger, Newman elected to SABR Board of Directors

SABR members have elected Allison Levin, Todd Lebowitz, Tara Krieger, and Roberta J. Newman to the organization’s Board of Directors in the 2024 election.

Allison Levin was elected as SABR’s Vice President, receiving 715 of 728 first-preference votes.
Todd Lebowitz was re-elected as SABR’s Secretary, receiving 716 of 722 first-preference votes.
Tara Krieger and Roberta J. Newman were elected as SABR Directors. Krieger received 172 first-preference votes and was elected first in SABR’s simplified preferential voting system after 19 rounds of balloting. Newman received 60 first-preference votes and was elected second after voting preferences were transferred in 18 rounds of balloting. Both Directors will serve a three-year term through 2027.

Special thanks to Tellers Committee members Stephen Barnes, Alex Marks, and Eric Simonsen for certifying the results on May 2 in a virtual meeting and to the Nominations Committee of Stew Thornley, Chris Dial, and Joanne Hulbert for their help in preparing the candidate statements.

Allison Levin’s election as Vice President creates a vacancy for a Director’s seat, and a candidate will be appointed by the Board of Directors. Any SABR member who is interested in filling the rest of that seat’s term — which runs until 2025 — should fill out the candidate statement form and send an email to Mark Armour.

We are seeking authors and contributors on a variety of articles and topics, including the differences between KBO and MLB, the impact and experiences of foreign players within Korea, the corporate team ownership model, technological advances, and bios about significant players and other figures.
