Rocky Mountain Chapter launches new Baseball Memories program in Denver
SABR’s Rocky Mountain Chapter launched its Baseball Memories program with a meeting on Wednesday, August 14 at Vi at Highlands Ranch, a senior living community in suburban Denver. Former Colorado Rockies outfielder Cory Sullivan spoke to the group of about 30 residents about his baseball career and the Rockies gave away memorabilia.
This was the first event held as part of SABR’s new partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association. The SABR Baseball Memories program now includes chapters in seven areas: Austin, Cleveland, Denver, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Diego, Westchester (New York).

Join us Sunday in Iowa for Cannonball Jackson grave marker ceremony
Join members of SABR’s Field of Dreams (Iowa) Chapter for a special dedication ceremony on Sunday, August 25 as the Negro Leagues Baseball Grave Marker Project unveils a headstone on the previously unmarked grave of Negro Leagues pitcher George Jesse “Cannonball” Jackson.
The ceremony will take place from 1:00-1:30 p.m. CDT at Linwood Cemetery Chapel, 2736 Windsor Ave., Dubuque, lowa. All baseball fans are welcome to attend.

Call for papers: Turnstyle: The SABR Journal of Baseball Arts
With the recent release of Volume 4 of Turnstyle: The SABR Journal of the Baseball Arts, SABR’s Baseball and the Arts Committee now turns its sights to submissions for Volume 5.
All SABR members are encouraged to send along your submission, or your questions, to editors Joanne Hulbert or Jay Hurd before June 1, 2025. We are looking for poetry, memoir, artwork, humor, short fiction, historical fiction, science fiction, and parody.

Join us for the sixth annual SABR/IWBC Women in Baseball Conference, which will be held virtually on September 20-22, 2024. All baseball fans are welcome to attend!

This year’s conference — co-sponsored by SABR and the International Women’s Baseball Center and hosted by Rockford University — is a virtual Zoom event. The conference will feature research presentations, panels, pylon unveiling, presentation of the Dorothy Award, and keynote speaker Jean Fruth.

Call for papers: 2025 SABR Frederick Ivor-Campbell 19th Century Base Ball Conference
All SABR members are invited and encouraged to submit a Research Presentation Proposal Abstract on any topic of 19th-century baseball for the 2025 Frederick Ivor-Campbell 19th Century Base Ball Conference at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. The 16th annual Ivor-Campbell Conference is scheduled for April 25-26, 2025. The deadline for proposal Abstracts is October 31, 2024.

Ryan Johnson named 2024 Player of Year by SABR Dallas-Fort Worth chapter
Dallas Baptist University’s Ryan Johnson has been chosen as the recipient of the 31st Howard Green SABR Metroplex Collegiate Player of the Year Award, while East Texas Baptist University’s Sayers Collins and LeTourneau University’s Dane Jones were selected as the 13th annual SABR Metroplex Carroll Beringer Award College Division Players of the Year by SABR’s Ernie Banks-Bobby Bragan DFW Chapter.
The prestigious college baseball awards honor the memory of Green, the local SABR chapter’s longtime president, and Beringer, a former major-league pitching coach who was a great supporter of college baseball in the area.
