Larry DeFillipo
Larry DeFillipo is a retired aerospace engineer who worked on numerous Earth-orbiting and planetary spacecraft missions in his 40-year career, including the Cassini mission to Saturn and the Antares launch vehicle that delivers cargo to the International Space Station. As a Little Leaguer, Larry confused friends and family by switching from throwing right-handed to left-handed, then did the same as a high school bowler. He reached the pinnacle of his baseball-playing career as a walk-on reliever for SUNY Stony Brook’s (now Stony Brook University) then-Division III team. Larry is a lifelong Mets fan, courtesy of his maternal grandfather Bill who rooted for the Brooklyn Robins/Dodgers until they fled westward. He has had his research published in The National Pastime, Baseball Research Journal, plus several SABR special publications and has written dozens of stories for the Games and Biography Projects. Larry loves traveling, hiking and going to baseball games with his wife, Kelly, a lifelong Braves fan.
