Read essays from Time for Expansion Baseball
It’s been a quarter-century since Major League Baseball expanded to 30 teams when the Arizona Diamondbacks and Tampa Bay Devil Rays began play in 1998. SABR’s Time for Expansion Baseball (2018), edited by Maxwell Kates and Bill Nowlin, tells the story of how each of MLB’s expansion franchises was formed, built its team, and began play.
All of the franchise essays from Time for Expansion Baseball have now been added to the SABR Research Collection and can be found online. Biographies of key players from each franchise can also be found at the SABR BioProject.
