Join us on September 15 for Three Rivers Stadium ceremony
All baseball fans are invited to join SABR’s Forbes Field Chapter at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2023, for the unveiling of a historical marker at the location of home plate for Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh.
The marker will be dedicated inside Gold Lot 1A, next to PNC Park, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Three Rivers Stadium served as the team’s home from 1970 to 2000, and was the site of many significant baseball milestones, including Roberto Clemente’s 3,000th career hit, Pirates World Series championships in 1971 and 1979, and the 1994 MLB All-Star Game.
The marker was funded in part through the SABR Local Grants program.

New Team Ownership History: Ottawa Lynx
The Team Ownership History Project, a joint effort of the BioProject and the Business of Baseball Committee, now has its first history of a minor-league franchise:
- Ottawa Lynx team ownership history, by Steve Rennie (first-time author)
While the project began to chronicle ownership of the current 30 major league franchises, it has been extended to the Negro Leagues, the All-American Girls Professional Baseball Leagues, and Federal League, as well as teams that disappeared in the 19th century. Opportunities are still available for the Atlanta Braves, Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles Angels, Houston Astros, plus the other leagues mentioned above. Interested authors should contact Andy McCue to get involved.
