Early registration is open for SABR 52 in Minneapolis

Join us in Minneapolis for SABR’s 52nd annual convention! Conference and hotel registration for SABR 52 on August 7-11, 2024, at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis, is now available at SABR.org/convention.

  • Click here for complete details on SABR 52 Early-Bird Registration and optional sessions, including a Minnesota Twins game, St. Paul Saints game, and Target Field ballpark tour.

SABR 52 will be distinct from its predecessors, as it will feature a Hall of Fame speaker lineup we know you’ll love — including Rod CarewTony OlivaBert Blyleven, and Jim Kaat — and will be the most accessible and social experience we’ve ever organized as we emphasize SABR’s ability to unite all of us in baseball fellowship. This year’s streamlined registration options will provide for a consistent and accessible experience for all attendees and the lowest registration price since 2018. We hope you’ll join us this summer in Minneapolis!

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Henry Aaron’s 715th home run

It’s nearly impossible to overstate Henry Aaron’s greatness on and off the baseball field. His record of 755 home runs, shattering Babe Ruth’s iconic career mark while enduring relentless racist threats in the segregated Jim Crow South, transcended the game. Fifty years ago this week, on April 8, 1974, Aaron surpassed Ruth with his 715th career home run.

His quiet brilliance and proud spirit displayed over a 23-year Hall of Fame career with the Milwaukee and Atlanta Braves made him one of the most visible Black men in American society, an idol to millions of fans and generations of ballplayers.

In the SABR Research Collection, you can find memorable game recaps from Aaron’s career, in-depth analysis of his home run record, an interview with the scout who signed him, and dozens of rare photos and images from the Rucker Archive.

8 new stories published at SABR Games Project

In addition, these stories from SABR’s Ebbets Field: Great, Historic, and Memorable Games in Brooklyn’s Lost Ballpark (2023), edited by Gregory H. Wolf, were posted online this week:
