What’s Rob Reading?

Billy Beane (National Baseball Hall of Fame Library)“Handsomeness Used To Matter More”
By Robert Arthur, Baseball Prospectus

“In the past two weeks, I’ve been writing about the Good Face effect: Handsome players tend to play worse, but paradoxically play more often in the majors, because they tend to get overpromoted in the minors up to levels they aren’t qualified for. Presumably this is because managers and front office-types systematically, if unconsciously, view them as being ever-so-slightly better than they are, similar to the Halo Effects found pretty much wherever else researchers have conducted studies on facial attractiveness.”
