Neyer is a longtime baseball writer and editor for, SB Nation, and He began his career as a research assistant for groundbreaking baseball author Bill James and later worked for STATS, Inc. He has also written or co-written seven baseball books, including The Neyer/James Guide to Pitchers (with Bill James), winner of the Sporting News/SABR Baseball Research Award, and most recently Power Ball: Anatomy of a Modern Baseball Game, winner of the 2019 CASEY Award.

This week’s guest is Dr. Lawrence Rocks, a renowned analytical and theoretical chemist who recently worked with Paul DeJong of the St. Louis Cardinals to study the effect of heat on a baseball and to promote Project #WeatherStationMoon to combat climate change. Their work was featured on a Topps Now baseball card in January 2021. Dr. Rocks is the author of The Energy Crisis in 1972 and he was influential in the creation of the US Department of Energy. He received his master’s degree in chemistry from Purdue University and his doctorate from Technische Hochschule Vienna in Austria.
