Neyer is a longtime baseball writer and editor for ESPN.com, SB Nation, and FoxSports.com. He began his career as a research assistant for groundbreaking baseball author Bill James and later worked for STATS, Inc. He has also written or co-written seven baseball books, including The Neyer/James Guide to Pitchers (with Bill James), winner of the Sporting News/SABR Baseball Research Award, and most recently Power Ball: Anatomy of a Modern Baseball Game, winner of the 2019 CASEY Award.

A three-time Emmy Award winner, he also calls games for CBS Sports Network, Turner Sports, MLB Network, and FS1. He was the television voice of the Miami Marlins from 2005 to 2017. He has also served as a play-by-play announcer for Tennis Channel, Raycom Sports, Pac-12 Networks, and Fox Sports 1. He is a graduate of the University of California at Davis, where he played college baseball.

In this new autobiography, Horton shares the fascinating story of his life and career, from growing up in Detroit’s Jeffries Projects as the youngest of 21 children to winning a World Series with his hometown Tigers in 1968. Horton also candidly discusses the opposition he faced as a Black player, his fond memories of Al Kaline, the joy he felt in returning to the Tigers as a front office executive, and the many ways he still tries to give back to Detroit and his community. By turns heartrending and hilarious, this timely chronicle is an essential contribution to baseball’s written history..
