2019 SABR Analytics Conference: Networking Reception
SABR is once again teaming up with the Baseball Industry Network for the 2019 SABR Analytics Conference Networking Reception, presented by KinaTrax, which will feature food, drinks and great opportunities to network with baseball professionals and other attendees from the conference.
The reception will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 9 at the Hyatt Regency Phoenix, 122 N. 2nd St., Phoenix, AZ 85004.
Admission to the welcome reception is included with your 2019 SABR Analytics Conference registration.

Jane Leavy to receive 2019 Seymour Medal at NINE Conference banquet on Saturday
2019 Seymour Medal winner Jane Leavy will receive her award at the banquet of the 26th annual NINE Spring Training Conference on Saturday, March 9 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Tempe, Arizona.
The banquet includes the Seymour Medal ceremony, dinner, and the NINE keynote address by SABR member Curt Smith, the author of many baseball books, including most recently The Presidents and the Pastime: The History of Baseball and the White House, and a former speechwriter for President George H.W. Bush.

Leavy won the Seymour Medal — which honors the best book of baseball history or biography published during the preceding calendar year — for The Big Fella: Babe Ruth and the World He Created, published by HarperCollins.
The Seymour Medal, named in honor of Dr. Harold Seymour and Mrs. Dorothy (Seymour) Mills, was first awarded by SABR in 1996. To be considered for the medal, a work must be the product of original research or analysis. The winning book shall significantly advance our knowledge of baseball and shall be characterized by understanding, factual accuracy, profound insight and distinguished writing.

John Zinn’s Charles Ebbets wins 2019 SABR Ron Gabriel Award
SABR is pleased to announce that John G. Zinn’s Charles Ebbets: The Man Behind the Dodgers and Brooklyn’s Beloved Ballpark, published by McFarland & Co., has been selected as the winner of the Ron Gabriel Award in 2019.
Zinn, from Verona, New Jersey, is the chairman of the board of the New Jersey Historical Society. He also won the Gabriel Award in 2014 with Paul G. Zinn for Ebbets Field: Essays and Memories of Brooklyn’s Historic Ballpark, 1913-1960. He will be honored at the SABR 49 convention, June 26-30, 2019, in San Diego.
The Ron Gabriel Award annually honors the author(s) of the best research, published or unpublished, on the subject of the Brooklyn Dodgers completed during the preceding calendar year. Eligible works include but are not limited to magazine and journal articles, previously unpublished chapters or articles in anthologies or other books with multiple authors, unpublished research papers, written versions of oral presentations, books, databases and websites.
Honorable mention was given to the following:

Announcing nominees for 2019 Dorothy Seymour Mills Lifetime Achievement Award
SABR’s Women in Baseball Committee established the Dorothy Seymour Mills Lifetime Achievement Award — “The Dorothy” — named in honor of Dorothy Seymour Mills and her lifetime of contributions to promoting women’s baseball.

With generous funding from The Anthony A. Yoseloff Foundation, Inc., SABR will award up to four scholarships to high school or college students to attend SABR 49 on June 26-30, 2019, in San Diego. This scholarship will pay for registration, transportation and lodging (double occupancy) up to a total value of $1,250.
The objective of this scholarship fund is to encourage high school and college-level student engagement with baseball research and to engender an active interest in baseball and SABR.

SABR to launch new baseball podcast in 2019: SABRcast with Rob Neyer
Baseball fans, tune in this season to SABRcast with Rob Neyer, a new weekly podcast hosted by award-winning author and longtime SABR member Rob Neyer.
SABRcast, which will launch around Opening Day in the spring of 2019, will feature insights and analysis of what’s happening in modern baseball on and off the field, plus compelling interviews with figures from around the game — and music from The Baseball Project.
