Baseball And The Algorithm: A parable of modern life

“Baseball And The Algorithm”
By Sam Miller, Pebble Hunting

“The MLB YouTube channel has posted 291,289 videos. If you had to guess what happens in the video with the very most views, what would you say? If this helps: The second-most-viewed video is called “Muscular Fan Struggles With Water Bottle.” If I had had to guess what the no. 1 video is, I’d have probably guessed either “The Steve Bartman incident” or “Robin Ventura, Nolan Ryan duke it out,” but those are merely 85th (with 3.1 million views) and 24th (with 7.3 million), respectively. If I had to guess again, I’d have guessed “2008 WS Gm 3: Taylor Swift sings the national anthem,” but that’s just 393rd, with 1.1 million views. Clearly, I’m not thinking big enough. What’s 27 times more popular than Taylor Swift singing?”
