Neyer is a longtime baseball writer and editor for ESPN.com, SB Nation, and FoxSports.com. He began his career as a research assistant for groundbreaking baseball author Bill James and later worked for STATS, Inc. He has also written or co-written seven baseball books, including The Neyer/James Guide to Pitchers (with Bill James), winner of the Sporting News/SABR Baseball Research Award, and most recently Power Ball: Anatomy of a Modern Baseball Game, winner of the 2019 CASEY Award.

Emma BaccellieriThis week’s guest is Emma Baccellieri, an award-winning staff writer at Sports Illustrated since 2018. Her work often weaves together elements of baseball’s past and present, such as her recent work on the Year of the Pitcher, the “baseball is dying” trope, and the origin of the save rule. She has also written profiles on a variety of other sports, including college basketball, soccer, chess, and the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Previously, she wrote for Deadspin — where she won a SABR Analytics Conference Research Award for her 2017 story on MLB Statcast — and Baseball Prospectus. She grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, and graduated from Duke University with a history degree.
